Youth is a time of possibilities. It is a period in life filled with opportunities waiting to be realized, provided we are prepared. While education helps us to develop our physical and intellectual capabilities to their optimum extent, and prepares us to thrive in a competitive world, there is one aspect of our development that does not often receive the attention due to it – the development of our inner being.
Without the synchronous development of body, mind and heart our evolution as human beings remains incomplete. It is therefore balance in addition to excellence that the youth must strive for - the balance between mind and heart, the outer and the inner, between thinking and feeling.
Through the All-India Essay Writing Event, we invite you to tap into your inner space, tune in to the soft voice of the heart that never fails to guide and inspire and, express in words your feelings on the topic.
We encourage you thus to begin the practice of referring to the heart early in life. With joy and hope, as always, we invite you to participate in the All India Essay Writing Event 2017!
This prestigious annual event is a collaborative effort of the United Nations Information Centre for India and Bhutan [UNIC], The Heartfulness Institute and Shri Ram Chandra Mission [SRCM] – a non-profit, educational and spiritual service organisation – to celebrate the International Day of Youth observed on the 12th of August every year.
Both organisations are dedicated to the creation of a peaceful human society founded upon love and harmony, and they believe that this can best be achieved by the inculcation of moral and spiritual values in the younger generation whom YOU represent, and in whom lies the hope of a better tomorrow.
Your willingness to participate in this event is, to us, a silent but effective expression of your concern for the state of our world and your recognition of the crucial role that youth must play in the creation of a new world inhabited by capable and balanced individuals. Therefore, as in past years, we once again urge YOU to apply your mind and search your heart as you pen down your personal understanding of these topics.

SHRI RAM CHANDRA MISSION AND THE UNITED NATIONS
The Shri Ram Chandra Mission (SRCM) was formally associated as a non-governmental organization (NGO) with the United Nations Department of Public Information (UN DPI) on 12 December 2005, coincidentally when both the SRCM and the UN were marking their 60th anniversaries.
As an international non-governmental organization that works in support of the public good and fulfills the principles outlined in the UN Charter, the Shri Ram Chandra Mission joins more than 1,500 other non-governmental organizations worldwide currently associated with the UN DPI.
UN and NGOs
The United Nations recognizes that solidarity and goodwill among the world's nations and peoples, and the assumption of collective responsibility, are necessary for the establishment of a world in which everyone may enjoy lasting peace and a sustainable life. To this end, the UN has been establishing partnerships with local, national and international, non-profit, service-oriented, voluntary groups that share similar values.
Sahaj Marg, The Unifying Factor
Since its founding in 1945, the Shri Ram Chandra Mission has been providing a platform for spiritual and practical living used by people in more than 100 nations. Every day, in its ashrams and in hundreds of centres worldwide, individuals from all walks of life—diverse nationalities, religious backgrounds, social and economic circumstances—come together, transcending boundaries in an atmosphere of love, trust and brotherhood.
The Mission achieves this unity of purpose by offering, without charge to all those who are interested, a simple and practical method of spiritual training known as Sahaj Marg. Sahaj Marg supports the unfolding of the full potential within an individual, who may then assume responsibility for personal growth and social change. Over the decades, guided by the third president of the mission, Shri Parthasarathi Rajagopalachari, the Shri Ram Chandra Mission has actively promoted human integration and evoked within the hearts of its practitioners the belief that all life is sacred. The current president and the spiritual representative, Shri Kamlesh D. Patel is continuing to actively promote the involvement of the mission and foster human integration.
The Mission's involvement with the UN comes at a time when more individuals around the world are benefiting from the Mission's spiritual services, and when the emblematic purpose of the UN to become a centre for harmonizing the actions of nations is ever more in need of support.
Recognizing the urgency for people with similar values to convene on a shared platform, the Shri Ram Chandra Mission embraces this association in the faith that, ultimately, selfless actions will govern the destiny of human beings.
“When we want one humankind, one humanity, one world, perhaps one universe someday, we have to find the uniting factor, not the dividing factor! And that is what I think spirituality is all about.”
“In our aims we have the highest. It is the oneness of all humans and a human brotherhood in which there is no separation, no alienation, no differentiation.”
